"Pat Says "The Media is Nuts" 8/31/07 Arizona Daily Star Article. |
|
Headlines in today's Arizona Daily Star read "Arizona home prices drop for the first time in 16 years" Could that be news? You Bet! Should that be news? Not in this case...! Talk about Mountains out of Mole Hills! Guess how much the drop was that the headlines are screaming about....... "home values in the state dropped nearly three-tenths of a percent (emphasis added) for the second quarter"! Oh, and by the way..., "Tucson home prices dropped 0.07 percent (emphasis added) in the second quarter". Is That News? Hardly! An entire Negative Article about fractions of 1 Percent? Come On...... Get real...! Here's a few more quotes from the article: "And the normally booming Arizona housing market is so cold (emphasis added) that prices could not even keep pace with the national average, which actually went up a tenth of a percent (emphasis added) in the same period." "As bad as these statistics are, the numbers could get worse" (emphasis added). It's Fractions of 1% People! Talk about sensationalism! They did state one positive fact: "Even with the quarterly decline, Arizona did manage to post a 2.2 percent increase in home prices over the same period a year earlier." But then they tore it right back down with "But here, too, the state lagged the average national increase of 3.2 percent." (emphasis added) It would be nice to see some positive news about some of the great things going on in our community like new retail developments going up all over the place to support our growing population, or new Street Improvements all over town showing what a progressive community Tucson is. Or Even..., get this..., an article about how great the local real estate market is that even with all the doom and gloom around the country Arizona has managed to post a 2.2% Increase in Home Values over the same period last year! The Bottom Line: We think this is a great time to buy a home in Tucson. Real Estate is, after all, a cyclical market. This could very well be the buying opportunity of a generation.
