Patagonia Lake is a big lake, at about 250 acres it is the largest lake in the area. This lake is about two and a half miles long so it is a biggie. There are lots of recreational activities available at Patagonia Lake. Fishing, of course is the primary activity on the lake. The lake has Bass, Crappie, Catfish and Bluegill. In the winter they stock the lake with Rainbows!
Other popular activities on the lake include water skiing, swimming and jet skiing. However, because this is a "multi purpose" lake, they have designated the East half of the lake as a no wake zone. Also, jet skiing and water skiing are not allowed on any holidays or weekends during the summer (from May 1 thru September 31st). This allows for days of "quiet time" at the lake. Camping is also available at Patagonia Lake with hiking and picnics being very popular. Sometimes it just feels good to be by the water.
Patagonia Lake is located South of Tucson about 20 miles Northeast of Nogales. To Get to the lake takes a little work, Go East on I-10, Go South on Highway 83 to Highway 82. Take highway 82 past the town of Patagonia about 7 miles and you should be there. The lake sits at about 3700 feet of elevation and is open year round. They have a boat ramp for you or you can rent a boat there. There is also a swimming beach and a handicap access fishing pier at the lake.
